For those who appreciate good food, Queenstown is a must-visit destination. This vibrant area is a treasure trove of local culinary experiences, offering a plethora of hawker centres and coffee shops that cater to the taste buds of Singaporeans. One of the most iconic food spots in the area is the Mei Ling Market and Food Centre, just a stone’s throw away from Penrith Condo. Here, foodies can indulge in a variety of beloved Singaporean dishes such as chicken rice, char kway teow, and lor mee. The hawker centre is a firm favourite among locals, who flock here for its authentic and pocket-friendly fare. The lively and bustling atmosphere during mealtimes is a testament to its popularity and the rich food heritage of the neighbourhood.
Originally an eight-storey commercial building across from 313@somerset, UOL received approval to redevelop the site into a 19-storey hotel under URA’s Strategic Development Initiative scheme in 2021. The hotel will also feature commercial and retail spaces.
Designed by WOHA, the NoMad Hotel will showcase a unique biophilic design with a 15-storey waterfall and a “cliff-like verdant vertical landscape” integrated into its façade. The third level will also feature an “urban verandah” that will serve as a public space for art and design events, as well as future connections to neighboring developments.
Among its many features, the NoMad Hotel will have a lobby on the fifth level with a sky terrace, an infinity pool overlooking Orchard Road, and a rooftop bar and restaurant. UOL Chief Executive Liam Wee Sin expresses excitement for the introduction of NoMad to Singapore, stating that it will be a part of their vision for Orchard Road alongside UOL’s upcoming private preview of their luxury residential project, UpperHouse at Orchard Boulevard, and the award-winning Pan Pacific Orchard.
NoMad, a luxury lifestyle hotel brand renowned for its sophisticated design, exceptional dining, and cultural programming, is the brainchild of US hospitality company Sydell Group. With Hilton’s acquisition of a majority stake in Sydell Group last year, the brand became a part of the Hilton portfolio. Currently, NoMad has one flagship location in London and plans to expand globally.
Hilton’s President for Asia Pacific, Alan Watts, acknowledges the high demand for upscale, experiential accommodations in the region and sees Singapore as an ideal destination to debut the NoMad brand. According to Sydell Group’s Founder and CEO Andrew Zobler, the Singapore debut is just the beginning, with plans for several deals in discussion in North America, Europe, and beyond.
